Switzer's Sidelines |
Well, what to say to sum up our wonderful season of volleyball. Going into Provincial Final weekend in Moose Jaw, both the girls and guys teams were definitely the underdogs. But we didn’t come home empty handed that’s for sure. Both the men’s and women teams were handed the most Sportsmanship award.
The women began the weekend playing the toughest girls team, and faired well, but their incredible effort and heart was not enough to match the skills of their opponents. FYI - The format of the tournament was double knockout, meaning if you lose two games, you are on your way home. – That being said, the girls had lost one of the two they were allowed, so they had to do it the tough way if they wanted to fair well.
Next up were the men, we had a chance to play a team that we had done well against once, Bethany. And the men didn’t do much better than the women, putting up a solid effort, but fell short by a few points in both sets. The next game for the ladies was early Saturday morning, and they were up against another tough rival, Millar. The story was quite similar to our entire season, the effort was there, and the heart was there, but our skills fell short. But we ended the season on a good note, singing game time, and going out with big smiles, and fun. The men were next up, needing to win a game to advance. We were playing a team that we squared off with well all year, Millar. But a mirror image of the night before our efforts came up short, letting too many spin serves hit the floor. But on a lighter note, we decided as a team that we would leave the tournament on a good note with huge smiles, and lots of good attitudes.
So that’s it for coaches corner for this half of the school year, it’s been a good semester, full of lots of fun, and a little disappointment. But like I always say, you’ve got nothing to lose when you’re the underdog all the time. And its not a bad place to start at. So thank for enjoying Switzer’s Sidelines. Hopefully you will tune in again next semester for more editions of the way I see things. Keep yer chin up, and your stick on the ice.
