Exiled
Let me just start this off by saying Kyle missed the whole point of the game. Im sure theyre not proud of it, and if they are they have nothing to be proud of. We have no reason to make any excuses, and Im not even going to say anything derogatory about the Kerrobert Tigers which Ramblers beat 5-3 last Friday. Im just going to say that this was their last big opportunity for a gong show, my one chance to stand up in the stands and scream and shake my fist in rage, and instead I would have rather been in my pajamas with a cup of coffee, watching the highlights on Sports Center, gently waving my mug around in mild indignity. If I learned one lesson, its that I should never, ever go to a game of hockey in Kyle, ever again.

That being said, I think Ramblers did a halfway decent job on Sunday night in Kyle. Johnny Meyer went down thanks to an arrogant Kyle player with a hit across the back calf leg for no reason, really, Im sure the Kyle player has been groped on the bus before the game. Third period didnt do any more justice as Schlenker fell hard on the ice, without any contact of any other player. Turns out he may have pulled something. Who knows if he will be able to play the rest of the season. Elks ends up defeating Ramblers for the third straight year in a row.

Back to Friday nights game against Kerrobert. Ramblers started the period off with a great start. Chris Schlenker scored the first goal of the night 3:23 with both Troy McIvor & Darcy Morrice assisting. Next was a Ramblers Power Play while Quinn McLean had no hesitancy in making his name be known. Assisting him Troy McIvor & B.J. Becker. Time of goal 9:22. Im afraid it doesnt stop there, B.J. Becker decides its time to join the others and scores 15:34, assisted by Dayton McIvor & Chris Schlenker.

The sheer scope of the second period score required viewings from multiple angles of the arena, and if a dozen Kerrobert guys all trying to take control of the puck wasnt shocking enough, Kerrobert finally made their first goal, well, I almost near crapped my jeans. Ramblers later gained another Power Play with B.J. Becker in control of the puck he scored 13:11. Third period Tigers proved to us Estonians they still have what it takes to play hockey, scoring two more goals making the game 4-3. Some may have spoken to soon when a Power Play was given to the Ramblers, as Darren Oliphant scrambled by the net tapping in the Ramblers last goal of the night. Assisted by Donnie Hartsook & Quinn McLean. Ending the night with a score of 5-3.

But you cant call it a real hockey game without a fight. Chris Schlenker takes up the oppurtune moment to scuff with a Kerrobert Tiger. Not only does Chris Schlenker remain standing in the fight, he actually tears his gloves off in the manner in which one would envision when using the phrase -the gloves came off-. On top of that, the look of sheer, carnal glee on his face as he made the trek across the ice. Schlenker says :I dont get to do this nearly enough.
Have you ever seen a man smile as he gives & recieves punchs to & from the other guy in the face repeatedly until tonight? Has any single display of emotion more fully embodied the sport?

As for the Kyle game, who cares? What a fight.

Hunted
I caught the hockey war of the Ramblers 4-4 tie with Kyle yesterday, and I dont know if it was due to the fact it was a long weekend, but it sure was an action packed game. Eight goals in all, including a Darcy Morrice hat trick (his second this season) and total of 4 assists from the Ramblers, and Kyles many fumblings of the puck was the subject of a nice shadow job by Dayton McIvor all game long.

Well-travelled veteran Darcy Morrice ended the scorefest with a tally of his own with just 2:76 remaining in the game, and a Kyle goal that saw defenceman Scott Poulter screen netminder Johnny Meyer while Kyles flutter puck beat him glove side. Tieing the game with 19 seconds left of third.

And while the Ramblers have been uber-impressive the past few weeks, with a non loosing streak since they were coachless, they posses a record win with 21 games leading up to last nights match, the fact that Kyle was still on the ice for the end of a tie game tells you all you need to know about where Ramblers are at in their development process. They are saving their energy for next weekends game.

The most troubling thing for the Ramblers should be that, while they were winning, in their most recent games the opposition has been able to pot more than their fair share of biscuits. B.J. Becker has allowed an ubundont amount of goals or more, something thats been attributable to the team, but as much to his efficient play, is to the opposite fact: the likes of and Mitch Nash playing 20+ minutes in a practice, or even showing up to one.

Defencemen are going to be in high demand prior to this weekends game, and you have to think Ramblers team captain, Donnie Hartsook has his eye on one or two if he envisions any kind of playoff succes.

But the question is: Should Kyle try and make a run now when Ramblers are obviously built for the Provincials?

Its a tough call for them, we will let them sit on it, but given the way they are currently constructed, I cant see Kyle amounting to much come March. Ramblers have great potential to shoot down this Elk which obveiously has no nore reason of migrating on. You will find their next game Saturday 24th at 8:00 pm. Where they play Kerrobert Tigers for the third time, with two wins under them this can be called for a great game. Then Rambler play in Kyle Sunday 25th at 5:00 pm. Where Kyle fans are most assuradly known for their animal like gestures. Hunting Season Has Begun.

Survive
Who snuck the Detroit Red Wings into the building and dressed them up as The Eston Ramblers? Holy smokes. Who are these guys? Certainly not our beloved Ramblers who, just a few short weeks ago, seemed to struggle for their position in playoffs. Something tells me now they werent content to let this season slip past them.

Tight defence. Awesome forecheck and backcheck. Unbelievable goaltending. Endless dives in front of the puck (#7 Nathan McLean puck dive count: 6). What happened? First Period fans got their moneys worth witnessing #19 Quinn McLean making the first goal of the night 13:24, assisting him #9 B.J. Becker. The Kerrobert Tigers played poorly the first couple shifts, and only managed to tie the game at the end of first

Second period Ramblers Power Play at 18:35 was given & no other than #20 Chris Schlenker was passed the puck by #7 Nathan McLean & #9 B.J. Becker, as the town of Eston witnessed Ramblers second goal of the night. The score remained the same well into the beginning of third. With 17:40 Left of third, & Kerrobert celebrating from their recent goal. Ramblers #9 B.J. Becker possessing two recent assists from first & second period decided to go for a goal in third. Assisting him in this astounding corner goal was Ramblers #17 Donnie Hartsook.

It was a wicked game against Kerrobert last night - loved in. I think that one of the overriding features of this rejuvenated squad is their ability to stay in the penalty box. But other than their overcharge of recent wins, Ramblers will be active this week, where they will have to play Kerrobert 3 more times.

Ramblers next game against Kyle will be Friday February 16th at 8:00 pm. After that they will travel to Kerrobert and play their second game of five. The question will be are the Kerrobert Tigers strong enough to revenge themselves of humiliation from last game?

Trespass

First Period import #20 Chris Schlenker & Dayton McIvor started the night .15 seconds into the first period. Following 1:06 later #12 Darcy Morrice, #9 B.J. Becker & #20 Chris Schlenker team up to score Ramblers 2nd goal. Huskies remain in shock due to the castration that was done two weeks ago & the also the fact they are being outplayed. Ramblers didnt stop their, a power play was awarded & the three Musketeers took advantage 2:48 with #2 Troy McIvor, B.J. Becker & #12 Darcy Morrice. Huskies finally bring it together making their first goal of the night. However, not long after Huskies can celebrate Eston gets another power play & uses it to their advantage. Making it possible was #20 Chris Schlenker, #9 B.J. Becker & #17 Donnie Hartsook. With 13:10 still in first Ramblers #20 Chris Schlenker hat tricks his third goal of the night. Assisting him #9 B.J. Becker. 19:59 left of first #12 Darcy Morrice takes the benefit of this time making Ramblers lead 6-2 end of first. Assisting #9 B.J. Becker & #2 Troy McIvor.

Second Period after many attempts to gain control of the puck Justin Crawford, Quinn McLean & Chris Schlenker team up & score with a time 3:30. Eatonia Huskies minutes later manage to get close enough to shot, but are quickly mistaken for their luck, the Ramblers to have seen the pack of hungry dogs. #1 Johnny Meyer quickly assists #20 Chris Schlenker while passing to #9 B.J. Becker makes a goal. Eatonia Huskies are quick on their skates scoring yet another goal for themselves, but still trailing behind the Ramblers. 14:32 Ramblers #33 Joel Switzer scores a Power Play goal, assisting #2 Troy McIvor & #14 Devery Sweitzer. Not two minutes later, Rambler #22 follows his uncles lead scoring yet another goal for the Ramblers, assisting #19 Quinn McLean.

Third Period with Johnny Meyer out of net, and with Mitch Nash the back-up goalie in the game seems to have taken a turn for the worst. With his lack of playing time in practices & games, Nash pulls off a gong-show letting in 4 goals from the opposing team. However, the Ramblers notice this & without delay call upon our goalie wonder. Johnny7 continues to save the day. Eatonia Huskies manage to have sunk in 4 goals, but still cannot keep up to our heroes. 2:35 into the third #12 Darcy Morrice plows through unsuspected players & shoots the Power Play goal in the net. Eatonia Huskies seem to get their food & water as they score 3 goals on Meyer. They should know better, Ramblers play better under pressure. With his 4th goal of the night & already possessing the title of a Hat Trick, #12 Darcy Morrice scores the last goal of the night 12:59 left of third. Assisting were #9 B.J. Becker & #20 Chris Schlenker. Final 12-9 for the Eston Ramblers. Friday nights Provincial game in Eston proved to be a good one. As the Ramblers that night gained the lead 5-2. However, before they can celebrate they will play them again Friday Night in Loreburn, where they have to keep Loreburn back by two goals. If they succeed in this they will move on to the next round. Eston Ramblers then travel back home where they will face Kerrobert Tigers in League Playoffs. That will take place in the Eston Arena Sunday Night at 7:00 pm.
