If You can't Dodge It Ram It! |
Mean Girls, New Kid's on the Block, Mechanics, what do all these people have in common? They are all in competition with each other in the game Dodge Ball. We had an excellent turnout on Friday night, as these eight teams of six dodged their way to either a lose or victory. Teams such as Mean Girls and the New Kid's on the Block did not tough it out. It was only AFDOD (Amazing Flying Dodge Ballers Of Death) that came out on top, as they proved they could dodge duck dip dive and dodge. Awesome win AFDOD. With the Wrench Dodgers hanging up their tool belts, and Mean Girls becoming elusive like white pandas, we all walked away knowing there would be another chance where we could seek Dodge Ball vengeance. Meet Derstellek |
With a disappearing and reappearing act, the Wall of Weird mysteriously moved to the library display case. What makes things more confusing a new face appeared. Riddle me this...who or what is it? My Superman senses tell me this is no new student, and no ordinary one at that. With a cross between Derek Wilson and Estelle Richards, this picture makes one think twice about the dangers in cloning. |

Presidential Posing? |
“Do you wanna run your fingers through my neck beard?” Not the typical comment an upcoming President would say. With the election for President complete, the students raise their sights and applause to Nigel Richards. Being 22 of age, and still keeping the ladies at the sidelines, Nigel is pressing on to complete year 2 ½. So, I wanted to know how he would now lug another responsibility. “Nigel, How do you feel about just being elected as the New President” “Frankly, I don’t give a rat’s a**” I’m glad to see he has interest for the job. Congrats Nige for becoming our new President. (slightly taken out of context) |

Heeerrreee's Johnny |
I had the special privilege to get a one on one interview with the famous Eston Rambler goalie himself, Johnny Meyer. So without further delay, I introduce Johnny Meyer...
Matt: Tell me about yourself?
Johnny: Well Matt, I am 21 years old, born and raised in Eston Saskatchewan. Hockey has been center stage in my life as far as sports go. I currently work out at West Central Road and Rail in the grain business. I live with 3 bachelors by the names of Ned McLean, Darren Oliphant and Dustin Mcloskey. I am from a family of 4. My mother Brenda works at the CIBC here in town, My dad is the Water Manager in town, and my only brother lives out in Calgary and currently wrestles for Stampede wrestling. I hope to become either a Computer Engineer or a Marketing Manager in the near future.
Matt: How long have you been playing hockey/goalie for?
Johnny: My father was a goalie and played some pro hockey, so I was born into it. I had goal equipment strapped on to me the day I could walk. I did play a little forward in minor hockey but then switched full time to goal when I was around 6. My dad would take me to the rink every morning before school and fire pucks at me until it was time to go school.
Matt: Tell me about your past involvements in Hockey?
Johnny: Well I started my minor hockey in Eston. In my second year Pee- Wee I played in Kindersley in their AA program. I played AA minor hockey in Kindersley for 3 years. I was drafted to the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL when I was 15. Then in my first year of Midget I moved to swift current to play AAA Midget for the Legionaries. I lived there for 2 years playing for them. Then when I was 18, I moved to The Pas, Manitoba, and played Junior A hockey for the OCN Blizzard for 2 years. My first year there we won all of Manitoba. Then in my last year of Junior I was traded to Kindersley of the SJHL and played my last year close to home. Currently I am enjoying playing at home for the Eston Ramblers.
Matt: Can you elaborate on the Kindersley Klippers? and How long were you playing with them?
Johnny: I played in Kindersley for one year. It was nice to play my last year of Jr. close to home. Our team got off to a hot start and was favored to go all the way, then some struggles hit and we ended up losing first round in the playoffs. It was a good experience for my family, and me as they were able to watch me more often.
Matt: How would you say the game of hockey changed down the years?
Johnny: I don’t think it has changed a whole lot at our level as compared to the NHL. The rules are constantly changing in the NHL but for the rest of us its stayed the good old great game that we grew up with.
Matt: Who is your favorite hockey team? Anyone you look up to?
Johnny: I grew up loving the Montreal Canadians and Patrick Roy. Then when he got traded I hated the habs and have hated them ever since. I started to like the Leafs not long ago but they too are starting to let me down as of late. I like to cheer for the under dogs a lot, I like success stories like that.
Matt: Okay, those were easy questions, Favorite Rambler?
Johnny: Wow, that’s a question that could get me in trouble. I love all them boys. Its great to finally get to play at home with the friends I grew up with. A lot of these guys I have never gotten to play with, so it’s a great change for my career. I don’t think I could pick just one.
Matt: Which team did you see this year was the biggest threat to the Ramblers?
Johnny: Well we didn’t have a whole lot of trouble with anyone in the regular season, so I was quite confident in our ability to go all the way. Every team seemed to improve as the year went on and into the playoffs, and we just kinda stayed the same. I think if there was one team that maybe gave us the best games in the season was probably Leader. They got a good squad and are tuff to beat in their own barn.
Matt: Could you please describe your website, and what the inspiration was behind it?
Johnny: www.johnnymeyer.net came about last year while I was playing in Kindersley. I really enjoyed working with computers and surfing the net. I played hockey with a kid that was a website designer, and one night when he was over we just decided to make a website. It started with humor and the odd joke and has now just blasted off. I never imagined it getting this popular. I get hits from all over the province and Canada. I try to keep it as local as I can. I think every town needs something like this. It takes a lot of time to keep it going, but its something I thoroughly enjoy. I dedicated the site to my best friend Gavin Oliphant that passed away.
Matt: Summarize this year in three words?
Johnny: Overwhelming, beguilement, catastrophe (the ending that is)
Matt: Would you like to add anything?
Johnny: Thanks for your interest in the Ramblers this season and we hope we can continue entertaining you. This blog is extremely well done and I hope you keep up the good work.
Matt: Thank you Johnny. Well there you have it our Superstar Eston Ramblers goalie, visit him online at www.johnnymeyer.net

Wall of Weird |
With most of the student body off elsewhere for the week, the left behind students seemed to have gotten themselves into mischief. An elaborate display of squeegeed faces pressed against a photocopier and publicly displayed for all to see. What made the students go wild on red kryptonite? “It’s sort of a protest, but for what?... Absolutely nothing” Nathan McLean expressed. I even found myself willingly volunteering in this act of “protesting” by taking a Kodak moment. You can find Nathan’s picture along with the many other faces of the students in the school Library, and hey, who knows how long it may continue… |

Passing the Stick -- A Farewell to Our Ramblers |
A day to remember as countless fans filled the Eston Hockey Arena like packed sardines. With Oyen Eagles still digging their claws deeper in The Ramblers, the crowds of Eston, Oyen and some unknown places sat at the edge of their seats, waiting to see who would move on. Getting to the point, Our Eston Ramblers were defeated. With a final 3-1 for Eagles.
As I watched in anger and sadness, I could not help but think how proud I was to be supporting such an awesome team. Here is a secret. I am not a true Estonvillian, but an Oyenight. I reside in a small town of the Oyen Eagles, Along with that, their defeat on Saturday I felt torn, with both my past and present haunting me. Although I can truly say, I was behind my Eston Ramblers the whole way.
In further news, having CBC film Hockeyville here, it went incredibly well, as I am still bedazzled on how many fans came. It was well over 500. With the small pewee kids playing hockey and FGBC’ers coming to dance in half time, it was in fact a memorable hockey day in Eston. Well-done Quinn McLean on the goal against Eagles. With the past obviously behind us, The Ramblers look to the Future, as they hang up their skates and take some time off. With that note, The Ramblers reports may end here, although there may be a few surprises in the future.
On behalf of Eston, Thank You Ramblers for the many fights, loses, wins and memories. It's a cliché -- but it really is about the journey and not the destination. We enjoyed every moment of this journey with you. Special Thank You to Johnny Meyer www.johnnymeyer.net |
