Oil Spill
Mmmm, do you smell that? Cooked Duck, I love duck!
The Edmonton Oilers survived an early Anaheim barrage and then took advantage of their scoring chances to advance to the Stanley Cup final for the first time in 16 years. Raffi Torres and Ethan Moreau each scored as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim 2-1 at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim Saturday night. Ducks were only able to lay one egg. With the win, the Oilers are Western Conference Champions and advance to the Stanley Cup Final to meet either Buffalo or Carolina. Edmonton can also become the first Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup since the Montreal Canadians completed the feat back in 1993. Oilers now wait for whoever comes out on top for the East. While they wait Anaheim cleans up the Oil Spill. Oil Kills Ducks.

Ducks Take Flight
Ducks grew some wings as they came out flying at the start and rode that wave to their first win of the series. The Mighty Ducks threw the kitchen sink at the Oilers and that seemed to distract the Edmonton-faithful enough to stop any rioting in the streets last night. The Edmonton Oilers were unable to overcome an early three-goal deficit as they dropped their first game of the series. Last time The Oilers won 7 games in a row was in 1990. Last time they played Anaheim in Stanley Cup Playoffs, 1990. Last time they won the Stanley Cup, you guessed it, 1990. Edmonton still leads the Western Conference Final three games to one and have a second chance to wrap up the series Saturday night in Anaheim. The Ducks live to skate another day after beating the Oilers 6-3. But, the series isn't over yet. So get gressed up as the series will shift back down to Anaheim for Game 5 on Saturday. It will be a 7pm start on CBC Saturday night. Wear your Batman Shirt.

Waiting for Breakfast...
Imagine with me, if you will, the future. Fifty years into the future to be exact. What might you find there? Flying cars? Robots? I really couldn’t tell you. What I can tell you however, is of one event that was planned fifty years ago (remember we are in the future now) that will change the lives of two people…

Her once soft skin and young body has been transformed into calloused skin hardened by time and a trick knee that tends to give out at the worst of times.

He has seen better times. So has his suit but he still manages to slide it on. He can’t move very well in it. Someone shrunk it since the last time he wore it, which doesn’t seem that long ago in his mind.

There aren’t many people about but there are enough who thought this day would never really happen and still can’t believe they are outside sitting on hard metal chairs with decorations draped everywhere. The music swells and he looks up to see his bride shuffling down the aisle. She is indeed shuffling because she gave up high heels years ago and her poor feet won’t last more then twenty minutes in anything other then soft soled runners. He waits. He waits some more. For those sitting in their seats time is going excruciatingly slow. Yet for the groom, it seems like she is down before he even has time to blink. His memory helps with that or lack or of memory for that matter. Soon, but not soon enough for the guy who has fallen asleep and is snoring in the back, she is there in front of him and he gives her a big gummy grin. He forgot to put in his dentures.

The preacher is not young in any sense of the word, an old friend both knew from days gone past. His voice is ruff like gravel as he begins to inform the small assembly of people what is going to happen today and for forever. Or for as long both of them may live, which might not be very long, but that is not the point. They face each other. She squints because her eyes were never good in the first place and she couldn’t find her glasses. He takes a ring and slides it on her finger. Then she does the same.

It is almost done. An event that waited fifty years to happen seems to be happening way too fast. Yet there they are, old and wrinkled willing to devoted what is left of their lives to each other as they say those eternal two words, “I do.” The preacher then exclaims that the groom may now kiss his bride, which seems odd for old people according to the young girl who covers her eyes but they lean in despite what she might think. Time has also seemed to stand still for this event as both fight off back pain to lock lips. Soon enough, everyone gathered can hardly wait for them to kiss because twenty minutes have already passed by and the caterer is whining that everything is going cold. Finally they are just an inch from each other, destiny is finally being reasoned with and fate will indeed have the last laugh. They lean in closer, closer, then…

That darn trick knee.

Ladies and gentlemen, the story that you have just read is not just any story but an event that will take place in fifty years from now. That is at least the plan. He hasn’t exactly asked me yet…

Duck Hunt
The Edmonton Oilers and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim put on quite the display of pond hockey. Late in the period, Toby Petersen scored his first career playoff goal to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. Bryzgalov went behind the net to play the puck but was checked by Rem Murray. Petersen picked up the puck and wrapped it around for the goal.

Third Period, Oilers still on this Duck Hunt. Peca made no mistake, firing the puck just inside the right post to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Sergei Samsonov broke into the Ducks zone and made a nice drop pass to Steve Staios in the slot. Staios ripped it from the slot blocker side to make it a 3-0 game. To get things started, Todd Marchant beat Roloson through the five hole but the puck squirted wide out the other side. Seconds later, O'Donnell beat Roloson on a screened shot to make it a 4-1 game.

Teemu Selanne scored shortly after to cut Anaheim's deficit to two goals. Kunitz had another chance to bury the puck and this time he made no mistake, slipping it past Roloson to cut the gap to 4-3. Marchant beat Peca on the faceoff but the Oilers centre was able to get a stick on the puck to centre it to Pisani who wrapped it around Bryzgalov and make it a 5-3 game. After the Oilers' goal, Anaheim went back on the attack and was able to make it a one-goal game. Selanne fired the puck off the net cam to turn the final two minutes. Final Score 5-4 for the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals. Supper Thursday 6pm in Edmonton, with a main course of potatoes, green beans and Duck. Feel Alive
Rock, Paper, Scissors has gone professional. In an age when organized dodgeball tournaments have become commonplace and curling is an Olympic sport, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a game known nearly universally in schoolyards around the world has caught on. So, what’s it doing in Eston?

What do you get when you mix Five Alive, rock, paper, scissors, and $60? You get a bet, and a very good one at that. It starts when one asks another a simple question “what are the five fruits in Five Alive?” and bets $30. But the other replies incorrectly, and watches their money fly away. Now you may ask yourself “can this go any further?”...Yes

In this corner weighing in at 181 lbs. a height of 6’1, with already $30 in his pocket, we have the Fluffinator, a.k.a. Johnny Meyer. And in the other corner weighing in at 170 lbs. a height of 5’8, fighting for the money he so brutally lost earlier, none other than Darren Oliphant. The lights dimmed, the competitors both take their seats and once more wonder what hand to play. But as fast as you can say holy thunder, the competitors strike and the match is over as Johnny Meyer take’s it with paper. With a final score of 1-0, Johnny wins with a total of $60, and Darren leaves a lot lighter. Next time find out which one will swallow 4L of shower water without spewing.

What's up Duck?
Edmonton took a commanding two-games-to-none lead in the Western Conference Finals with a 3-1 Game 2 victory Sunday in Anaheim, a carbon copy of Friday's contest. To start things off, Chris Pronger started the game as he wired it past Bryzgalov to give Edmonton an early 1-0 edge. Second period was matched up as the Ducks stopped playing duck duck goose, and made an attempt to score on Roly, success. However, Edmonton had other plans, with a quick recovery with just over two minutes remaining in the middle frame, Samsonov had another dynamite shift. He almost sent Peca in alone on a two on one and seconds later found Pisani, who made no mistake in rifling the puck top corner to make it 2-1. Third Period a lot of back and forth play however, Michael Peca added an empty-net tally in the final minute to make the final 3-1. Oilers lead 2-0, Game 3 in Edmonton Tuesday at 6PM

Fix You
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
when you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Oilers too Slick
The Oilers drew first blood in the Western Conference Finals with Michael Peca showing no weary edge in slowing down and scoring the first goal. The Ducks traded goals in the first period, but soon after Ales Hemsky in the second put Edmonton ahead 2-1. Finally, in third period Todd Harvey finishes the game off with 42 seconds left and makes a clean score 3-1 for the Oilers. These Ducklings will look to get even as they migrate to Anaheim. It’s to bad it’s hunting season.

“Who would have thought back on April 13 when a late goal by Ales Hemsky versus the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim launched the Edmonton Oilers into the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs? That just over a month later the same two teams Edmonton and Anaheim would be battling it out for the Western Conference Championship? As improbable as it may have seemed, here we are with the Edmonton Oilers only four wins away from a spot in the Stanley Cup Final.” – Criag MacTavish - Head Coach

R.I.P. Here Lie the San Jose Sharks
The smell of barbecued seafood accompanied by Napa Valley wine may soon be tickling noses along Roper Road. The Oilers continued their magical run as the Sharks Drown in Oil. Michael Peca scored a highlight-reel goal eight minutes into the game to put the Oilers up 1-0 and Shawn Horcoff made it 2-0 after scoring with eight minutes left in the third. At the same time Dwaine Roloson stopped all 24 saves and makes it the biggest game of his career. That was all the Oilers needed as they defeated the San Jose Sharks by a score of 2-0 to advance to the Western Conference Final and face the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Did you hear the one about the Oiler and the Duck?

Warning to farmers, keep an eye on your cattle. In other news, it's deja vu for the Oilers, as once again they loose to San Jose 2-1. Sharks T. PREISSING scoring in the only goal in the first period, shows Edmonton a thing or two about Hockey. Edmonton receives the message with S. SAMSONOV scoring the first goal for Oilers, but soon following Sharks J. THORNTON upping the bar by scoring the 2nd goal for San Jose. Final score 2-1...again for the San Jose Sharks. Next game Wednesday, 8 pm in Edmonton.

Kryptonite
Sore and weak
This world is so different than my own
My judgment is scattered
The only feeling I have is fear
Fear of exposing this Clark Kent secret
Kryptonite surrounds me weakening me in every movement
I'm holding on to so little in life
Just swinging from a building top, where once before I flew
I wish I could leave, go back home
Where is home?
Only to find out my home are my friends
But I'm Alone
Homeless
Sore and weak
