Switzer's Sidelines
Well, what to say to sum up our wonderful season of volleyball. Going into Provincial Final weekend in Moose Jaw, both the girls and guys teams were definitely the underdogs. But we didn’t come home empty handed that’s for sure. Both the men’s and women teams were handed the most Sportsmanship award.

The women began the weekend playing the toughest girls team, and faired well, but their incredible effort and heart was not enough to match the skills of their opponents. FYI - The format of the tournament was double knockout, meaning if you lose two games, you are on your way home. – That being said, the girls had lost one of the two they were allowed, so they had to do it the tough way if they wanted to fair well.

Next up were the men, we had a chance to play a team that we had done well against once, Bethany. And the men didn’t do much better than the women, putting up a solid effort, but fell short by a few points in both sets. The next game for the ladies was early Saturday morning, and they were up against another tough rival, Millar. The story was quite similar to our entire season, the effort was there, and the heart was there, but our skills fell short. But we ended the season on a good note, singing game time, and going out with big smiles, and fun. The men were next up, needing to win a game to advance. We were playing a team that we squared off with well all year, Millar. But a mirror image of the night before our efforts came up short, letting too many spin serves hit the floor. But on a lighter note, we decided as a team that we would leave the tournament on a good note with huge smiles, and lots of good attitudes.

So that’s it for coaches corner for this half of the school year, it’s been a good semester, full of lots of fun, and a little disappointment. But like I always say, you’ve got nothing to lose when you’re the underdog all the time. And its not a bad place to start at. So thank for enjoying Switzer’s Sidelines. Hopefully you will tune in again next semester for more editions of the way I see things. Keep yer chin up, and your stick on the ice.

Accelerate
Two boys were playing hockey at an outdoor arena when one is attacked by a Pit bull. Thinking quickly, the other boy rips a board off the nearby fence, wedges it down the dog's collar and twists, breaking the dog's neck. A reporter who was walking by saw the incident, and rushed over to interview the boy!
"Eston Ramblers fan saves friend from vicious animal," he starts writing in his notebook.
"But I'm not a Ramblers fan," the boy replied.
"Leader Flyers fan rescues friend from horrific attack," the reporter starts again.
"I'm not a Flyers fan either," the boy said.
"Then what are you?" the reporter asked.
"I'm a Kindersly Red Lions fan."
The reporter turns to a new sheet in his notebook and writes, "Redneck idiot kills family pet."

The Ramblers look to extend their winning streak to six games and beat the Kindersley Lions for the second straight time when the teams last meet two weeks ago Saturday. First Period not even five minutes of play Kindersley attacks our back-up goalie #30 Mitch Nash, as it takes the Lions into the lead 1-0. However Ramblers don't play with kittens, they take possession of power plays, so with 14:08 into play #21 Tyson Wuttunee sinks one in with the assist of #9 Brent Becker & #17 Donnie Hartsook. Clock shows 14:43, 35 seconds Ramblers #19 Quinn McLean steals the show with #21 Tyson Wuttunee & #17 Donnie Hartsook both assisting. The Lions strike again with goal number two and ties first period up.

Second Period #19 Quinn McLean & #9 Brent Becker takes Ramblers into the lead making the all of second period 3-2. Like a snake in the grass #22 Dayton McIvor scores Ramblers 4th and final goal 7:16 into third. Assisting him #19 Quinn McLean & #21 Tyson Wuttunee. Lions return the favor scoring their final goal making the game 4-3 for Ramblers. The Ramblers will try to win their season-high seventh straight game and avenge Leader Flyers next week when they play December 1 at 8:00 pm.

Ode to Johnny
With the return of the long overdue Ned Files I have elected to dedicate the next installment to www.johnnymeyer.net website’s proprietor – a poem for Mr. Johnny Meyer himself:

Jonathan Mark Meyer is a solid German name,
That didn’t quite make er to the hockey hall of fame.
But as for me you’ll find interesting enough,
I don’t like John or Johnny, because I prefer Fluff.
He enjoys the odd drink and a good friendly laugh,
Either that or ripping WCRR for time and a half.
He’s your best friend filling your dirty coffee mug,
until the news comes – that’s right – your grain has bugs.
He doesn’t rattle easily – he proved that as a Rambler,
And backed it up in poker, as a top-notch gambler.
But when crunch time hit - a series barely legal,
He flopped like a water buffalo - swarmed by Oyen Eagles.
He’s a sneaky, little bastard when it comes to HLA,
Just ask Ryan Britton who Johnny nearly sewered every day.
He loves his hockey pools, pizza pops, and long baths,
But don’t get him spelling or doing advanced math.
It’s sad to think that our dynasty will cease,
But it’s bound to happen with his hot babe Lenise,
Oh I love my roommate and Dick would agree
We’ll always miss the room full of cat poo and cat pee.

Switzer's Sidelines
Hello again and welcome to my little corner of this wonderful blog, Switzer’s Sidelines. The name of the game this week is Storm Volleyball.

We were on the road for the third time this season and traveled to our rival school Millar College of the Bible. Both men and women’s teams got started first thing in the tournament, and faired extremely well. The men’s team brought their “A” game out early and won an early set on Millar, but went on to lose the match in the third set 15-12. The ladies came out with an excellent effort but could not fair any better in the Millar tourney than any other tourney we have been too. Although every match they played they gave the other teams a good run, and didn’t make it easy to win.

The gentlemen came out on Saturday with lots of positive rest and won their first match of the day in three sets; 21-25, 25-17, 15-8. And with another win against a very tough Bethany squad we had the chance of competing in the playoffs of the tournament. We came out strong in the first set, but dropped the lead late and made a few minor mistakes that lead to a 25-19 loss. In the second set it was much of the same, fairly dominated by our squad, and we lead right up until the final point and then dropped the ball and lost the second set 25-23. We were pumped though, because we have never brought a game so close with such a talented team.

The weekend was quite a success, we reached our goal of doing better than the tournament before, and we look to the future to do better than these past three tournaments. Next weekend is the weekend to do it for the men, as it is the provincial finals, and wills separate the good from the bad. The ladies team would need a miracle to make a good run at the playoffs, but we believe! And the men have the skill and heart to make a run, there are just a few things blocking our way. In order to obtain our goal of improving on every tournament, that would mean that we need to win at least three games this weekend.

“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.”

We look to next weekend as the end of a great season, stay tuned to get those final results, and maybe even throw a little prayer in the air for the home team! This is it for me this week, so keep your stick on the ice, and your head held high.

Bombshell
Just when you think its safe to go outside, it isn't. Last night more suspicious things were have said to happen outside the boys dorms. Three dark figures spotted were said to have been carrying bags of flour. Not sure for what, but recent evidence plastered on the brick walls proves it wasn’t for baking. With the pranking still going on between the boys & girls like a racquetball game, eccentric unexpected things have been happening. Joel Switzer (shown above) may look as if he may have been in the nose candy, but it is in fact baking flour. How the prank went down is another story, but recent interviews express the fact "girls hate surprises".

Extinction
A week from the Ramblers victory of two wins in a row, could they possibly make it three in row? With all the rumors and commotion of #24 Darren Oliphant leaving the team, Ramblers find out the rumors are true. However, will this be the last time we see #24 on the ice? Ramblers headed north 30 minutes to Kindersley where they met with the rivalries of the Kindersley Red Lions, which were more like cats. With just a little cat nip & some yarn, Ramblers tamed this ferocious beast, as just in the first period #9 Brant Becker hattriked while astonishing both teams with his predictable but astounding three goals. Times were 6:17 with assists #15 Dylan Pederson & #5 Derrick Knight, 14:25 with assists #21 Tyson Wuttunee & #19 Quinn McLean, 16:54 with assists #21 Tyson Wuttunee & #33 Joel Switzer. Even with the hard work from the Ramblers the slackers from Kindersley managed to hit one in blindsided past Johnny Meyer.

Still much hope in Second period as the Ramblers were now leading 3-1. #22 Dayton McIvor made himself known among the Lions as he made his second goal of the season. Time of play 6:17 with assists from #44 Matt Owens & #9 Brant Becker. Shortly after his assist #9 Brant Becker again managed to tame this Lion by scoring his fourth goal 9:50 into the period. #13 Hugh Houston soon followed his lead scoring 13:21 with assists from #3Josh McCloskey & #5 Derrick Knight.

Third period and the gap between Ramblers and Lions was quite big. 3:45 into third #13 Hugh Houston makes his second goal on the night assisting him #15 Dylan Pederson. The last minutes of play with the clock on 17:47 #44 Matt Owens scores one on the lions assisting him #Brant Becker & #22 Dayton McIvor. Not even a minute later #21 Tyson Wuttunee takes down this Lion finalizing the score 9-3. Assisting him #19 Quinn McLean & #15 Dylan Pederson. Ramblers fought incredibly and will fight again in two days on Friday November 17th against Estonia Huskies.

Transference
Take you back in time last Friday where the grounds have shifted, mountains grew, valleys were made, and the Ramblers second & third win of this year happened. Yes it was a glorious day in Kerrobert, as the Eston Ramblers came home that night with a win of 5-2. Two days later Ramblers were scheduled to play Luseland in our home arena. #12 Darcy Morrice started the night off with Estons first goal 12:23 into the period assisted by #9 Brant Becker & #17 Donnie Hartsook. Before you can say day ja vue. Darcy manages to sink in another 4:24, with our amazing talented goalie #1 Johnny Meyer assisting. Luseland manages to sneak two past Johnny and makes the score and even 2-2.

One word describes what happens in the second period. Hattrick. Yup, that’s right #12 Darcy Morrice makes his third goal of the night with #9 Brant Becker & #5 Derrick Knight on his side. 6:20 left of second period Jeremy Cooper blindsides the Luselands goalie and sinks in his first goal of the year, with both #33 Joel Switzer & #44 Matt Owens assist’s. Third period once again the cobra #12 Darcy Morrice strike for his forth time and sinks the final Ramblers goal at 15:56 into the period, assisting him were both #9 Brant Becker & #17 Donnie Hartsook. Final for Ramblers 5-2. Ramblers next play in Kindersley where they will be fighting the ferocious kitty cats the Red Lions on November 15 at 8:30 pm.

Tea Party
The new fade has just reached Eston and is taking us up by storm. Blue bonnets, puffed-up marshmallow dresses, crowns that are tarnished, only things you'd find in your grandparents tickle trunk. You would only expect this kind of behavior in the playschools. So why has it strangely affected the student body making them all act like 3-year olds? One word: Birthdays. Here at the college weird and crazy things are expected to happen when your clock strikes twelve. And on this time we had the proof to show off. However, you may want to keep out a watchful eye next time when it's your turn to have your tea party, dress-up day, make-over, or to be jumped and stuffed into a duffle bag…you get the idea.

World Faith Tour
The World we live in is a mysterious place that people have voyaged for hundreds of years. On November 7 we will begin our voyage. Our dream is to travel around the world in a year. However we don’t was to simply see the world we want to experience it in the way our Father experiences it. We believe that through stepping out in faith this next year will be filled with the miraculous. We hope to experience God in creation, provision, different cultures and the beauty of His people. Life is a precious gift, from the moment God breathed into humanity starting with Adam and Eve, human life has been unique. We desire to see the world around us in living color. To experience it like no other creature. This voyage around the world is a step towards taking full advantage of our unique perspective. Augustine once wrote, “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only but a chapter.” We pray that the Lord would open our eyes to read the hundreds of chapters that He has written for our short life. We know that God has called all of us to His purposes. For this next year we believe this is God’s purpose and call on our life and we will follow. At times with hesitancy and others with overwhelming excitement but may the Lord always find us faithful. We pray that our step of faith would inspire yours and as we take this step of faith on our journey we ask for your prayers that God would increase our boldness and enlarge our faith to walk in the calling He has on our lives. We are humbled as you join with us in our journey of faith, thank you.

The Inside Poop
Four dark suspicious figures were said to have entered dorm one last night around 11:00pm, and where seen carrying the last thing you’d expect…if you are from a city. Chickens, five of them to be precise, all full-grown, not egg laying, chickens. Why? And Who?

They are called Think Pink, and you might have heard that distrustful name before, the pink ladies suited up in boys clothing, bought five chickens from a local Hudderites farm, and when the boys abandoned their post, they struck.

Three of the think Pink’ers names have been released, and even a new member may have joined the festivities last night. Linsay Gammel, you may ask her and she will in fact denies it, but new evidence can prove otherwise. And I quote “I was never part of the original, so don’t get me back for that” “We are Pretty in Pink, not think Pink” stated Sarah Mortensen, along with the two other Pink Ladies, Stacy Schulenburg and Tiffany Madson. The other four names have yet to be released, but until then, the boy’s doors may smell like crap for a while, and I dare say I have seen bowel movements prettier than their dorm in this state. But if you find yourself strolling along the south western part if the hemisphere, stop by the boy’s dorm and sit, chat, and enjoy some well-cooked barbequed chicken. That’s all today for The Inside Poop…er Scoop…Literally.

Conquer
Ramblers ended the day with a terrific turnout in the Eston arena. Somehow the game didn’t go as planned. Through out the whole first period not one single goal was scored. However, a lot of penalties were given. Second period 3:52 into play Ramblers shook the arena with #21 Tyson Wuttunee, as he astonished the crowd with his power play goal. Also assisting him was #9 Brant Becker & #19 Quinn McLean. Shortly after the power play Macklin managed to tap in a goal past our goalie Johnny Meyer.

Third period Ramblers fans were off their pooper and upon their feet, when #21 Tyson Wuttunee was awarded with a penalty shot 8:36 into play. He managed to get the puck into the net, but the arena was quickly plagued with the refs call for the goal. Two minutes later they received good news it was accepted. Ramblers were ahead 2-1. With ten minutes left of game time, Macklin yet again managed to get another goal. Both teams tied.
At this point Ramblers scrambled to settle the score. But with 3:56 left in the game, the stench of stagger filled Ramblers fans and Ramblers faces. Macklin did the unmanageable and scored their third goal finalizing the game 3-2. What happened in this last period that bewildered us all? Ramblers fought with sweet, blood and…well there were no tears. You learn as much from those who have lost as from those who have won. Ramblers will be ready once again to play. Next game Friday November 10, 8:00pm in Kerrobert & Saturday November 11, 8:00pm against Luseland. Great game guys.

Endeavor
The spotlight was on the Leader Flyers tonight as the Eston Ramblers made their way down south. The Rambler’s start was as rusty as the Flyers skates, not the typical start you'd expect them, to have. You don't need Indiana Jones to help find it. It's not a case study for the cast of CSI. Even the popcorn vendor in the nose bleeds can tell you what it is. It's about pursuit. It's about effort. Ramblers lacked that. But, it wasn't four minutes into the game they put this “pass the puck” game into play. #22 Dayton McIvor was first to start the Ramblers off to victory by scoring the first goal 4:25 into the first period. And the end of the first, and the exhaustion setting in, but not letting it slow them down, Ramblers scored second goal. With 54:2 seconds left in the period by #12 Darcy Morrice.

Second period the Flyers took flight and caught up by scoring two goals in the first seven minutes of play. Ramblers soon got uneasy of how they might bring this win home. Sticks broke, pucks flew, and 11:50 in second period #7 Nathan McLean was kicked of the ice for crosschecking from behind. And to take the two penalties for roughing was #9 Brant Becker & #12 Darcy Morrice. Game play continued and Flyers scored their third goal. Wasn’t soon after, Ramblers evened the score again, with #9 Brant Becker, one of our imports scoring our third goal. Soon after that Flyers scored their fourth and final goal. Ending the game with a score of 4-3 for the Leader Flyers.
Ramblers didn’t bring Sexy Back this time and they have yet to rest, and play again in 24 hours. Ramblers face the Macklin Mohawks in Eston Saturday November 4 at 8:00 pm we'll see yah there.

The Pink Ladies
Let’s say you wake up one morning and find yourself staring at the downright words “think pink” across your door? Find out a vehicle has been stolen from the boy’s parking lot and abandoned two blocks away. Find yourself walking across a large voluptuous banner in the lounge reading “In the beginning...”. Posters on every wall blaring in hot pink:

“Think Pink
-Pretty in Pink”

Not the typical thing you’d find in Eston…or is it? 42 girls are suspects to this crime. Pranking all 3 guys dorms in the time era of 12-2am without even getting caught. Now you think the authorities and crime stoppers may have a part in this, but they shut us down. In addition, the 42 girl's alibis haven’t exactly sounded as if they “went to bed early”. Recent scouring and much interrogation of the 42 “girls” resulted in seven names, which kept on popping up repeatedly. Now I’ve spoken to them and for now they wish to remain anonymous, but I do want to share a bit of their dark secrets…

“Young Andie is one of the not-so-popular girls in high school. She usually hangs out with her friends Iona or Duckie. Duckie has always had a crush on her, but now she has met a new guy from school, Blane. He's one of the rich and popular guys but can the two worlds meet?” Confused? You should be. “Pretty in Pink” A romance movie made in 1986 describing the above plot. Why? They have yet to disclose that information. The banner in lounge: “In the Beginning” Four words came to mind…”The War Is On”. To sum things up to the boys dorms, like they used to say: “It aint over till the fat lady sings” When will these seven Pink Ladies strike again? Will they strike hard? Will their identities remain hidden…?
